Wanted: The Perfect Liquid Eye Liner

Until recently, I used smudgier eyeliners far more regularly than liquid eyeliners. Lately, it’s been Cover Girl’s Exact Eyelights Eye-Brightening Eyeliner. I like the more natural, casual looks cream liners can create, which has made them my go-to eyeliners for everyday wear the past few years, and I’ve limited my use of liquid liner to big events and more formal looks.

But while I love the way they look, there’s a problem with smudgy cream eyeliners that I’ve found increasingly annoying: My eyelids are deeply creased, which means that when I look down or open my eyes wide, my lash line touches the skin above my eye and leaves a dark line from my eyeliner there. Too many times I’ve checked a mirror in the middle of the day only to be embarrassed to find liner stripes above both my eyelids. Not cool.

So I decided to start experimenting with wearing liquid eyeliner more regularly. Unfortunately, I discovered my former go-to fave — MAC’s Liquidlast Liner — was discontinued, which meant I had to hit up Sephora to see what my options were for a replacement.

One of the employees there recommended Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eye Liner, assuring me it was very long-wearing and came with a super-fine point for really precise application. I also remembered having seen the product on Sephora’s website, where it had received a lot of positive reviews, so I placed my trust in the general consensus and decided to give it a try.

I’ve used Stila’s liquid liner on a daily basis now for the past few weeks, and while it’s solved my smudge problem, it’s created another problem. Although the formula really is quite waterproof and long-lasting, as far as application goes, I’ve been disappointed: I find the liner feathers slightly with each stroke, which means I sometimes have to spend more time than necessary going back and forth trying to make both eyes match.

If this were day one, I’d say part of my problem could be that I’m just out of practice with liquid liner. But it’s been two weeks now, and I feel like that’s enough time to see what the product is consistently like and formulate an opinion on it.

Do you regularly wear liquid eyeliner? Have you found one that you swear by? Let me know — I’m in the market for the perfect one!

I feel your pain. I use that same Stila eyeliner, and in addition to the feathering, I find that it's extremely sticky. I pretty much *need* to wear eye shadow with it, and when I do, it ends up sticking to the eyeliner and giving me a softer look than I might've been going for. I used to use an Estée Lauder eyeliner that I **loved**, but I haven't been able to find it lately. :( EDIT: No wonder I couldn't find my old eyeliner! [It's actually from Lancôme](http://www1.macys.com/shop/product/lancome-artliner-precision-point-eyeliner?ID=828&CategoryID=30533&LinkType=#fn=EYE_LINER_TEXTURE%3DLiquid%26sp%3D1%26spc%3D7%26ruleId%3D2%26slotId%3D7).

A few years ago my mom gave me her Dior Style Liner Liquid liner..holy bajeezus it is the best liquid eyeliner I have ever used. Expensive as a @#$@#, but just so awesome. It's lasted way longer than it should have too. Only downside is that it's not waterproof, so if you go swimming with it on you WILL look like a raccoon in ten seconds.

I have done "the hunt" many a time. So far though, my favorites are E.L.F. (surprisingly) and an Avon product called Liquiliner Eye Pencil. It's a pencil but goes on as smooth as liquid - have been using that awhile. Also the tarte gel eyeliner is really nice, the best I've found so far (have tried many of those too!) good luck!

Guerlain liquid eyeliner is amazing! It's a little pricey, but it will last you FOREVER. The brush is so beautiful and the eyeliner liquid itself is nice and thick. It lasts all day too!

I actually use Maybelline's Master Precise liner, or Perfetto Eyeliner by Tokidoki (which I get from Sephora). Generally, I don't like liquid liners, they get so messy, and sometimes burn my eyes. The first liquid liner I finally liked was the tokidoki stuff. It's a felt-tipped pen, and it glides on very smoothly, doesn't burn my eyes, it dries almost instantly, and it's pretty darn waterproof. As for the Master Precise, I just recently bought that, and like it well enough, it's another felt-tipped like pen. But with this, the felt tip is a little longer, thinner, and more flexible. This also dries almost instantly, but it isn't very waterproof, and can easily smudge. So if you can splurge on liner, tokidoki is great, but if not, master precise is nice :].
