Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray

Ever since I moved back to Boston, I’ve been having major problems with oil and shine. I guess Boston is a lot more humid than California, so my skin has been super oily and I’ve also been breaking out really bad – which just makes me want to wear more makeup, even though it’s probably not good for my acne. By mid-day, my makeup is practically melting off of my face, even if I use a primer like Smashbox Photo Finish. I also think that the lighting in my office may be a contributing factor, because I’ve gone shopping all day and my makeup was fine after, but every day at work, I feel like I have to keep applying powder to my face.

Recently, I went to Sephora with a friend of mine, and asked one of the sales associates what she could recommend for oil-control. She introduced me to two products: Dr. Brandt’s Pore-Thing, which is a treatment gel that I’ll review later, and Urban Decay De-Slick Oil-Control Makeup Setting Spray.

What it is:

De-Slick is a hypoallergenic formula that comes in a spray bottle, which is supposed to absorb excess sebum and control surface shine, leaving your makeup looking matte all day. It claims to have a patent-pending “Temperature Control Technology,” which lowers the temperature of your makeup to hold it in place.

How To Use De-Slick Setting Spray

After cleanser, toner, and applying the Pore-Thing treatment I bought, I spray my face with De-Slick Setting Spray in an “X” and “T” formation, holding it about five inches away. This serves as my face primer. Then, I go on with the rest of my makeup routine  - foundation, concealer, powder, eye makeup (not before applying Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion to my lids), bronzer, and blush – and when I’m finished, I spray my face again with the De-Slick Setting Spray to set my makeup.

Results

I have definitely seen positive results after using Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray… my makeup stays in place longer but, I do find that if I’m going to go out after work, I still need to give my face a once-over with powder because I can still see the slightest bit of shine by the end of the day. It’s definitely an improvement, but maybe there’s a better solution that will make my makeup stay in place until I take it off at night, and not just for the majority of the day. I also thought that maybe because I wear more makeup than the average girl, I need a product that’s more heavy-duty. I’m going to keep trying this regime for the next few weeks and see if the Pore-Thing treatment kicks in and stops my face from producing so much oil, and then maybe the De-Slick Setting Spray will last longer too. I’ll keep you all posted!

Urban Decay De-Slick Setting Spray can be found at your local Sephora or Ulta for $29.

I have the Urban Decay "All Nighter" spray. It's mediocre at best. I have had much better results with E.L.F. setting spray. It's only three dollars too.

i only tried the all nigher as well and didn't like it. i have oily skin though and it's geared towards regular skin, i believe. good thing i bought the small size for $11! i found what works best for me is actually mufe's HD powder. makes my make up last 8+ hours!
