I purchased this set of brushes recently after I got a deal for 20% off my purchase at Sephora, along with a cheek palette from NARS. I have never tried any of Too Faced’s products, but I was kind of curious about the brand – especially after Stela created a brand new website for them a couple months ago. When I first got the Too Faced Shadow Brushes Essential 3 Piece Set, I was impressed with how soft the brushes were. The brushes are made of “‘Teddy Bear Hair,’ an exclusive, supersoft, cruelty free and luxurious synthetic fiber that grabs and blends pigments for a professional-looking application.” (From the description on Sephora). This set received really good reviews on Sephora so I had some high expectations…
The Too Faced Shadow Brushes Essential 3 Piece Set comes with a blending brush, all-over shadow brush, and flat liner/smudger brush. Overall I liked the brushes and could use two of them every day, but I was kind of disappointed with the blender brush because it was a little too thin. I tried to use it to apply shadow on my creases, to contour around my orbital bone, but it didn’t have enough bristles to really have a good effect on my eye shadow. The flimsy Too Faced blending brush definitely didn’t compare to my MAC 217 blending brush.
The liner/smudger brush, which is a tiny flat edged brush is the one I use the most out of this set. I use it to smudge shadow along the lower line of my eyes to give my eyes more depth. Then, after applying pencil liner to my top line, I smudge it out to create a smokey look. This brush is perfect because its not too wide so you can also use it to apply gel liner or shadow and create the perfect cat-eye.
The all-over “smoker” brush is a good brush to apply shadow all over your lid, and small enough to use just on the outer corner of your eye. I don’t really use it as much as the liner brush because I have a lot of other brushes that I use for my every-day look and I don’t really need this new brush. The liner brush seems to be the one I found the most use for, and it’s made my look a lot sexier I think, haha.
