Layla Magneffect – Turquoise Wave
*Note: Please excuse the sloppy application and the purple peeping through — I was too excited and eager to try this out.
This is probably the most mind-blown I have ever been with a nail polish in my life. The OPI crackles came close, but this? This is on a whole different level.
Layla Magneffect Enamels are basically magnetic nail polishes. At face value, they look like any other nail polish and can definitely be used as such. However, the top of the bottles sport a magnet which basically attracts the secondary, magnetized color into a design or pattern! I’m not 100% on the mechanics of it — all I really know is that it works!
To achieve the magnetic effect:
1. Apply a full coat of the nail polish onto your nails.
2. Hold the magnet on top of your nails for at least 5 seconds.
BAM! You’re done.
A few things to keep in mind though before application are:
1. Shake well before use. (Yes, seriously)
2. The more nail polish you apply, the more defined your effect will be.
3. Use the line on the magnet to help you make consistent designs — it indicates the direction of the magnetic field.
4. It’s a quick drying formula, so apply and magnetize one nail at a time.
Other than that, the application was pretty simple with gorgeous results.
My only gripe with Layla’s Magneffect Enamel is that the price is pretty steep. At $15.50 a bottle, its almost double the cost of your average Essie or OPI nail polish — crackle or not. It’s definitely a splurge item, but worth the money when you consider how much a similar look would cost you at a nail salon.
